Dilaver ERŞANLI1, Murat SÖNMEZ1, Melih ÜNAL1, Oğuz GÜLECEK1
GATA Haydarpaşa Eğt.Has. Göz Kliniği, İstanbul The factors affecting the prognosis, operation time and results were evaluated in 36 patients whom underwent pars plana vitrectomy by applying to our clinic with blunt ocular trauma between June 1992 and March 1999.
The mean age was 22.5-7± 18.(7-60 years old) while 32 of cases (89%) were male , 4(11%) were female .Cases whom operated on by pars plana vitrectomy for pathological conditions occured after ocular blunt trauma were followed-up for average 22(4-46) months.
Endolaser photocoagulation and scleral buckling procedures were performed in the cases that required. For internal tamponading; silicone oil ,SF6 gas or air were used. Visual acuity increase was obtained in 64% of cases, 22.2% of the patients retained their vision , in 13.8% of them vision was impaired. No significant difference could be found in terms of visual improvement related to time period past after trauma until operation(p>0.05).
Preoperative retinal tears and detachment were thought to be the factors that worsen the prognosis.
