To evaluate effectivness of the argon laser for posterior hyaloidotomy in premacular subhyaloid hemorrhage.
A 24 year old man, treated with chemotherapy for acute myeloblastic leukemia was referred with a bilateral sudden visual loss. Visual acuity was initially counting fingers at 4 metre in the right eye and hand motion in the left eye. Funduscopic examination revealed multiple subhyaloid haemorrhages in both eyes which located premacular and around optic disk. On the 7th day of presentation, the patient underwent argon laser hyaloidotomy for drainage of subhyaloid haemorrhage. First week after treatmant visual acuity was 0.4 in the right eye and 0.2 in the left eye. His vision improved to 0.9 in the both eye at 6 months after treatment. No complication was seen excluding posterior hyaloid contraction.
A 27 year old man, diagnosed as premacular subhyaloid hemorrhage due to impaired vision of the left eye after sever cough. He was referred our clinic for operation ten days after his complaint began. Visual acuity was 5 metre counting fingers in the left eye. Funduscopic examination revealed a large premacular subhyaloid haemorrhages. Posterior hyaloid membranotomy was achieved by Argon laser. One week after treatmant visual acuity was 0.5 in the left eye. His vision improved to 1.0 at 6 months after treatment. Following argon laser treatment no complication was seen.
Drainage of premacular subhyaloid hemorrhage into the vitreous with argon laser is a simple procedure which result in rapid visual recovery and is relatively safe.
