INDOCYANINE GREEN ANGIOGRAPHY FOLLOW-UP OF SERPIGINOUS CHOROIDOPATHY

Başkent Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Göz Hastalıkları ABD To investigate the role of indocyanine green (ICG) angiography in the follow-up of serpiginous choroidopathy, four eyes of two serpiginous choroidopathy patients were followed up for 2 and 3 years. Fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA) and ICG angiography were performed at active and inactive stages of the disease.
During the follow-up, acute lesions were observed twice, in the left eye of case 1 and right eye of the case 2. Inactive lesions were hypofluorescent in early stages and hyperfluorescent in the late stages of the FFA, where as acute lesions showed late hyperfluorescence and leakage of fluorescein in the late phases. Both acute and inactive lesions were hypofluorescent in ICG angiography although, active parts of the lesions were less hypofluorescent. An area of hyperfluorescence, which was not evident clinically or fluorescein angiographically, was observed in ICG angiography in case 2. When compared with the FFA, ICG angiography demonstrated the extent of serpiginous choroidopathy lesions better.
The ICG findings supports the theory that serpiginous choroidopathy is primarily caused by vascular pathology of choriocapillaris. In the follow-up of serpiginous choroidopathy ICG angiography demonstrated the extent of lesions better than the FFA. On the other hand clinical findings and FFA are still valuable for distinction between acute and inactive lesions.
