Treatment Approach in Eyes with Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy and Macular Oedema
ÖNER GELİŞKEN
Special Focus Eye Clinic, Bursa/TURKEY Diabetic macular edema is the most common cause of visual loss, in patients with diabetic retinopathy. Incidence of diabetic macular edema rises with progression of retinopathy, and reaches to the top level with proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Laser photocoagulation, intravitreal drug treatments and vitrectomy, alone or in combination with each other can be used, as a treatment approach for diabetic macular edema in patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Anti-VEGF treatment should be preferred in young patients with phakia and for eyes with intra ocular hypertension and glaucoma. Intra-vitreal triamcinolone may be used as an alternative treatment in Pseudophakic patients without ocular hypertension. Determination of the right strategy is the key for a successful outcome. Keywords : Diabetic macular edema, proliferative diabetic retinopathy
