Why Early Treatment of Diabetic Macular Edema?

Yeditepe Universiy Faculty of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology, İstanbul/TURKEY Diabetic macular edema is the most common cause of visual loss in diabetic patients. It's a well-known condition in clinical practice that long-term macular edema would lead irrreversible structural damage in macula and visual loss. In this presentation, literature regarding this well-know condition is presented. In conclusion, diabetic macular edema should be treated on time both for the visual expectations of the patients, i.e. better vision, and for preventing the irrevesible macular damage/vision loss caused by the macular edema.
