Neovascular Glaucoma and Treatment
NİLGÜN YILDIRIM
Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology, Eskisehir/TURKEY Neovascular glaucoma (NVG) is a severe type of secondary glaucoma which is characterized by fibrovascular tissue proliferation at the iris and anterior chamber angle as a cause of eye ischemia due to ocular and extraocular disease. Coats described first rubeosis iridis on 1906 in a patient with central retinal vascular occlusion. Weiss and colleagues first used NVG name on 1963 After hemorrhagic glaucoma, congestive glaucoma, thrombotic glaucoma and rubeotic glaucoma names were given. Although retinal disease are the most common cause, other ocular and exraocular entities can play a role. Surgical success and visual prognosis change based on the grade of NGV, which frequently shows agresive clinic and resistance to medical treatment. It is important to treat underlying ocular and extraocular disease to minimize morbidity due to NVG. The aim of this review is to provide an update about NVG etiology, pathogenesis, and treatment to the readers. Keywords : Neovascular glaucoma, etiopathogenezis, treatment
