Purpose: To evaluate subfoveal choroidal thickness in healthy Turkish subjects with wide age range by using optical coherence tomography (OCT).

Materials and Methods: In this retrospective study, we evaluated 478 eyes of 239 healthy individuals. The age range was (10-83) years. Subfoveal choroidal thickness (SFCT) measurements was performed with spectral-domain OCT in EDI (enhanced depth imaging) mode. Age and OCT measurements was assessed by Pearson correlation analysis and regression analysis.

Results: Subfoveal choroidal thickness (SFCT) measurements showed a significant negative correlation with age. (p<0.001, r=-0.578). The regression analysis showed that a 1.797 milimicron SFCT reduction for the increase each year of age.

Conclusions: Similar to age-related SFCT decrease, choroidal vascular bed-as well as other microvascular tissues-may be influenced by structural changes in the aging process. In this way, the EDI OCT setting out these changes can be a good instrument to follow. Keywords : Optical coherence tomography, choroid
