Vitreomacular Traction and Pharmacological Therapies
Ali Osman SAATCİ
M.D. Professor, Dokuz Eylul University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology, İzmir/TURKEY Vitreomacular traction (VMT) is a focal traction exerted by posterior vitreous on the macula. Though spontaneous traction release may be possible, therapeutic intervention may be required in cases with symptomatic VMT with or without macular hole. Pharmacological vitreolysis term is the induction of safe and uncomplicated detachment of posterior cortical vitreous from the macula with the help of biochemical substances by changing the nature of the vitreous. Nowadays, in light of MİVİ-TRUST studies, intravitreal ocriplasmin therapy gains importance for the management of syptomatic VMT. Keywords : Pharmacological vitreolysis, macula, ocriplasmin, vitreomacular traction
