A 56-year-old male patient, with a complaint of blurred vision in his left eye, was referred to our clinic 5 years ago. His visual acuity was 20/60 in the left eye. Dilated fundus examination revealed superior temporal branch retinal vein occlusion and macular edema in the left eye. The patients was homozygous for the C677T mutation of the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) and arterial hypertension, high blood homocysteine level, low blood vitamin B12 and folic acid levels were detected after systemic evaluation. Approximately 2 years later, his 40-year-old daughter had a complaint of blurred vision in her right eye. Her visual acuity was 20/40 in the right eye. In the fundus examination of the right eye, superior temporal branch retinal vein occlusion and macular edema were noticed. The patient was heterozygous for the C677T mutation of the MTHFR gene and her homocystein level was within normal limits. Keywords : Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase, branch retinal vein occlusion, homocysteine
