VITRECTOMY IN DISLOCATED LENS AND LENS FRAGMENTS
Yavuz BARDAK1, Yusuf ÖZERTÜRK1, Mustafa DURMUŞ1
Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Göz Hastalıkları ABD. Isparta Purpose : To investigate the effectiveness of vitrectomy in cases of dislocated crystalline lens and lens fragments.
Materials and Method : Vitreoretinal surgery was applied to 5 trauma cases in which crystalline lens and to 16 cases in which lens fragments due to complicated cataract surgery dislocated into the vitreus. Preoperative and postoperative findings were compared.
Results : In preoperative period, ocular pain was detected in % 37 (14 cases), corneal edema in % 57 (12 cases), uveitis in % 38 (8 cases), retinal tear in % 10 (2 cases), cystoid macular edema (CME) in % 10 (2 cases) of the cases. The mean time for the vitrectomy was 20.9 ± 20.5 days (minimum 2 days, maximum 80 days) after dislocation of the lens or lens fragments into the vitreus. The mean postoperative follow up was 9.1 ± 5.4 months (minimum 3 months, maximum 22 months). Following the vitrectomy, there was an increase in the best corrected visual acuities (except 2 CME cases) At the last control of the cases, there were 2 (%10) cases with corneal edema and 2 (%10) cases with CME. Uveitis, retinal detachment, retinal tear, pain and intraocular pressure rise findings were not detected in the last control of the cases.
Conclusion: Vitreoretinal surgery is an effective method to correct the complications of dislocated crystalline lens or crystalline lens fragments into tha vitreus.
Keywords : Crystalline lens, crystalline lens fragments, dislocation, vitreoretinal surgery
