SB Ankara Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi PURPOSE: To investigate the results of Nd-YAG laser membranotomy in patients with premacular subhyaloid hemorrhage.
METHODS: 11 eyes with premacular subhyaloid hemorrhage secondary to valsalva retinopathy, diabetic retinotomy, traumatic or secondary to aspirin usage were treated with Q-switched Nd-YAG laser. The duration of hemorrhage was 2-20 (mean 4.7) days. Applied energy level was 4-7 mj, pulse number was between 1-4.
RESULTS: In 10 patients after Nd-YAG laser membranotomy hemorrhage drained into the vitreous cavity and visual acuity improved to 0.8-1.0 in 8 patients and 0.6-0.7 in 2 patients from hand motions. One diabetic eye required early vitrectomy. During the application of laser and follow up period no complication has been observed.
CONCLUSION: Nd-YAG laser is an alternative and easy treatment for the drainage of premacular subhyaloid hemorrhage into the vitreous cavity while improving the visual acuity.
Keywords : Subhyaloid hemorrhage, Nd-YAG laser
