Purpose: To evaluate the features of outer retinal tubulation (ORT) in spectral domain-optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) imaging in patients with exudative age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Materials and Method: SD-OCT images of 586 eyes of 397 patients with the diagnosis of exudative AMD were reviewed retrospectively. Thirty eyes of 19 patients with exudative AMD who had ORT were included in the study. The changes and related treatments that have been detected after ORT diagnosis were evaluated.

Results: Of the 19 patients, 13 (68.4%) were female and 6 (31.6%) were male. The mean age of the patients was 71.21±16.07 (48-88). The mean number of ORT detected in 30 eyes was 2.4±2.63 [1-13], and the mean number of ORT at final examination was 4.83±5.12 [0-18], which was statistically significant (p <0, 05). Mean best corrected visual acuity was 0.85±0.55 [1,6-0] logMAR when ORT was fi rst detected and 0.74±0.47 [1,6-0] logMAR at the last follow-up (p> 0.05). Mean anti-VEGF injection was 8,33±9,09 [3-36], there was no statistically signifi cant correlation between injections and presence of ORT (r = 0,076, p = 0,695 p> r). The mean central retinal thickness was 215,37±92,2 ?m (95-455 ?m) initially and 125,17±66,8 ?m (38-320 ?m) at fi nal and the decrease was signifi cant (p <0.05).

Conclusion: The presence of ORT is a degenerative process and may increase with over time. Treatment may provide anatomical and functional success in exudative AMD even if ORT is seen.. Keywords : Age related macular degeneration, optical coherence tomography, vascular endothelial growth factor
