Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a disorder of the developing retina of low birth weight preterm infants that potentially leads to blindness.

Infants with a birth weight of 1500 gr or gestational age of 30 weeks or less and selected between 1500 and 2000 gr or gestational age of 30 weeks with an unstable clinical course at high risk for ROP, should have retinal screening examinations after pupillary dilation by using binocular indirect ophthalmoscopy. Although most have a favorable anatomical and visual outcome, long-term follow-up even after a successful treatment in ROP is necessary. This patients have a high risk of developing visual impairment due to refractive errors, nistagmus, strabismus and ambliyopia due. Because of these long term complications, follow up examinations are recommended. Keywords : Retinopathy of prematurity, complications, follow up
