Purpose: To determine macular microvascularity with optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) in eyes with idiopathic epiretinal membrane (iERM).

Materials and methods: Sixty eyes of 30 patients were included in the study. The control group consisted of fellow eyes of patients without any ocular disease. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and OCTA records were evaluated. Foveal avascular zone (FAZ), foveal, parafoveal and perifoveal superfi cial and deep capillary vascular density (CVD) were evaluated with OCTA. Both eyes were compared in terms of CVD and evaluated whether there was a correlation between BCVA and CVD.

Results: The FAZ area was 156 ± 9.7 2 ?m2 in eyes with iERM (Group 1) and 334 ± 8.3 ?m2 in control eyes (Group 2) (p <0.001). Foveal VD was statistically higher and parafoveal VD lower in group 1. There was a positive correlation between BCVA and FAZ area and parafoveal VD and negative correlation between BCVA and superfi cial and deep foveal VD.

Conclusion: A marked foveal and parafoveal microvascular change was observed in eyes with ERM and visual acuity was more affected in eyes with a more pronounced microvascular change. Keywords : Optical coherence tomography angiography, Vascular density, Epiretinal membrane, Visual acuity
