GATA Haydarpaşa Eğit.Hst. Göz Kl. In our study, we inspected 94 eyes of 91 patients which were applied laser photocoagulation because of retinal tear and hole between 1990 and 1997. 50 patients were male, and 41 were famale. The mean ages were 46 (from 24 to 68). Retinal breaks investigated in terms of shape, localization and associated conditions. The average follow-up period was 43 months, in this period 7 eyes were applied second, 1 eye was applied third treatment. 4 eyes were undergone detachment surgery.
Considering the psychological, physical effects and cost of retinal detachment surgery on the patients, we think that it will be better to apply photocoagulation instead of following up, especially on patients who have retinal detachment risk and in borderline indication of prophylaxis.
