In order to compare to Pattern VER (PVER), color vision, visual field and visual acuity tests in evaluating of optic neuropathies, we applied PVER, computarized visual field, Farnsworth-Munsell 100-Hue test to 57 optic neuropathy patient submitted to GATA Ophthalmology Department between November 1991 -July 1993.
On 73 eyes of 57 patients, the abnormality in PVER was 98.4%, in visual field was 84.9, in color vision was 86.3%. The abnormality ratios of the tests were similar, except in 0.8-1.0 vision group. In this group (19 eyes) the abnormality in PVER was 100%, in visual field was 53 and in color vision was 47%. The difference between PVER and the other groups was significant. In the other eyes of unilateral optic neuropathies, abnormality of PVER was % 17.1, of color vision was % 14.6, of visual filed was % 2.4. In the patients we followed 3-18 months, PVER abnormality persisted more than others.
PVER are decided to be the most sensitive of these tests in diagnosis and follow-up of optic neuropathies, especially in better vision and subclinic groups.
