Purpose : The effect of balanced salt solution (BSS) and liquid perfluorocarbon perfluoroperhytdropnanthrene (vitreon) combined with vitrectomy was investigated in the treatment of nonexpulsive massive suprachoroidal hemorrhage (NEMSH) which is caused by secondary lens implantation.
Methods : BSS combined with vitrectomy was used in one case of NEMSH. Suprachoroidal hemorrhage (SCH) was drained through posterior sclerotomy. In another case, vitreon combined with vitrectomy was used. SCH was dranied through anterior sclerotomy.
Results : We have failed in the draining of SCH thoroughly the case in which BSS was used. On the contrary, the choroidal detachment was receded in the vitreon used case. The preoperative visual acuity was hand movement.
Conclusion : Perfluoroperhydrophenanthrene and. other liquid perfluorocarbons can successfully be used in the treatment of NEMSH and have more efficiency than BSS.
Keywords : Suprachoroidal hemorrhage, Vitrectomy, BSS, Vitreon
