Gata H.Paşa Eğit. Hast. Göz Kliniği We evaluated 194 rhegmatogen retinal detachments according to the etiology, surgical techniques and complications which were had performed surgery between February 1986 and December 1995. Postoperative follow-up periods of cases were between 5-118 months (mean 52.79±32.6 months).
Rhegmatogenous retinal detachments are seen more frequently between 51-60 age group (57 cases %30). Lattice degenerous (%18), Aphakia (%17), trauma (%16) were the most frequent etiological factors. In %13 of cases one quadrant, %39 two .quadrants %27 three quandrants were affected. %21 of cases retina was totaly detached and %70 macula was incolved. Significant part of breaks were at the upper temporal quadrant (%51).
We performed classic retinal detachment surgery to %98 of cases and pneumatic retinopexy to %2. 2 or more rows improvement in snellen chart is considered as functional success, reattached retina as anatomical success (%92). Postoperatively visual acuity of 1/10 or better were %71.
Complication rate of our cases were %23. In the first 10 years period functional succes was %79, complication rate was %86, complications rate was %10. In rhegmatogen retinal detachment surgery we had performed improvement of surgical techniques and experience were considered to be the factors affecting success.
