Etiopathogenesis and Recent Approach in Central Retinal Vein Occlusion
Hülya GÜNGEL1, Ümit DOĞAN1
Abant İzzet Baysal Üniv. İzzet Baysal Tıp Fakültesi Göz Hast. A. D., Bolu Occlusion of the central retinal vein is a disease that threatens both sight and the entity of the eye. In the formation of the disease, cerain anatomical charasteristics of the eye need to occur along with systemic factors. There are different mechanisms which can explain how a case of non-ischemic central retinal vein thrombosis can turn into an ischemic type. The patient's systemic diseases and ocular diseases, increase the tendency for thrombosis at lamina cribrosa by producing the histopatological changes in the central retinal vein at the lamina cribrosa level. The same diseases damage the auto-regulation of the retinal vascular system and antithrombotic surface of the endothelium and thus make it easier for thrombosis to develop in the capillary bed. With the apperance of thrombosis further at the front, the inability of the circulation in the pial veins to continue, or the blokage of an artery in the closed retinal circulation cause wide areas of ischemia. The purpose of this study is to review these mechanisms. Keywords : Central Retinal Vein Occlusion, Risk Factors, Hypertensive Retinopathy
