We have studied 48 eyes of 30 cases with the pars planitis. The patients examined in this study had the ages between 10 to 56. The most frequently detected complication was the macular degeneration (42.8%) followed by cataract (22.1%). In the treatment of 40 eyes (83.6%) of these cases, cryocoagulation was applied transconjonctivally to and around the exudate zones with the help of binocular indirect ophthalmoscopy. This treatment has resulted in an increase in vision in the 50%, no change in the 45.9%, and a decrease in the 4.1% of the cases. This study has also shown that cryotherapy has been found to bevery effective in the treatment of the pars planitis when applied in conjunction with topical and subtenon corticosteroids.
