Gazi Üniv. Tıp Fak. İmmünoloji AD. The mechanism of ocular destruction in intraocular inflammation has been extensively investigated in ophthalmology and immunology divisions. Interleukin-8 has an angiogenic effect and a chemoattractant effect on neutrophiles. In this study Interleukin-8 levels in vitreous and blood samples of patients with uveitis and the role of interleukin-8 in the ocular inflamation are investigated. Interleukin-8 level was found to be high in vitreus samples of 7 patients out of 12 patients with different ethnologies. (>15pg/ml). In blood samples of the patients and vitreous samples from cadaver eyes taken as the control group, no Interleukin-8 level could be detected by the method that we used. (p<0.01).
