Ocular Ischemic Syndrome On Account Of A Case

Ocular ischemic syndrome is a disorder characterized by corneal edema, stria, uveitis, hypotony, neovascular glaucoma, ocular angina and visual loss caused by decreased vascular perfusion of the eye due to causes such as carotid artery disease, systemic arteritis (giant cell arteritis, polyarteritis nodosa, aortic arch syndrome), hyperviscosity syndromes and carotica-cavernous fistula. The diagnosis of bilateral ocular ischemic syndrome due to giant cell arteritis of internal carotids is established in a 66 year old woman referring to our, complaining of bilateral vision loss and ocular angina; with the therapy of intravenous 250 mg methylprednisolone every six hours for three days followed by oral application in accordance with the ESR values, while an improvement in the anterior segment findings is found on the fifth day, no changes have been observed in the posterior segment for 12 months.
