Indocyanine Green Videoangigraphy In Posterior Uveitis

Indocyanine green (ICG) videoangiography was performed on 41 cases with posterior uveitis to demonstrate choroidal disturbance in chorioretinitis and to investigate choroidal involvement in patients with Behçet's disease and retinal vasculitis. Of the patients, 24 had Behçet's disease, 15 active or inactive chorioretinitis and 2 retinal vasculitis. Fluorescein angiography (FA) showed diffuse retinal vascular and disc leakage due to retinal vasculitis in Behçet patients. ICG revealed hyperfluorescent spots on the disc in some of them and hypofluorescent spots throughout the retina in the others. FA of the eyes with active chorioretinitis showed hyperfluorescense of the lesion whereas ICG disclosed hypofluorescense. In eyes with disseminated chorioretinitis, ICG demonstrated many more lesions which were not evident on FA and ophthalmoscopy. Inactive chorioretinitic scars were hypofluorescent due to disc and retinal vasculitis while ICGA disclosed hyperfluorescent areas on the disc and choroid. As a conclusion, the use of ICG anjiography can be helpful in diagnosing disturbances of the retinal pigment epithelium and choroid in posterior uveitis.
