Uludağ Üni. Tıp Fak. Göz Hastalıkları AD. The minimized detachment surgery which based on segmental buckling limited to the retinal breaks without encircling, drainage and intraocular injection has been applied to 45 cases with rhegmatogeneous retinal detachment.
29 eyes had one retinal break and 14 eyes had multiple breaks preoperatively. Circumferential buckle in 17 eyes, radial buckle in 25 eyes and both in 3 eyes were placed. In order to create retinopexy cryotherapy in 16 eyes and postoperatively laser photocoagulation in 29 eyes were performed. Reattachment was obtained in 33 eyes (73.3%), after the first operation and in 9 eyes (20%) after the second one. The late recurrence developed in only one eye after 5 months following the operation.
After a mean follow up time of 12.5 months the anatomic success in 41 eyes (91.2%) and 1/10 or better visual acuity in 34 eyes (75%) were obtained.
It is concluded that the minimized detachment surgery is a safe and successful technique for adequate cases with RD.
