GATA Göz Hastalıkları AD, Ankara Purpose: To evaluate the result of combined adventitial sheathotomy and radial optic neurotomy in an eye that had hemispheric and branch vein occlusion.
Case: Combined adventitial sheathotomy and radial optic neurotomy has been applied to a 64-year old female patient with superior hemispheric and temporal branch vein occlusion. Preoperative and postoperative clinical examination, fundus florescein angiography and doppler ultrasonography were performed and the case followed closely. Visual and anatomic findings were noted.
Results: There was no intraoperative and postoperative complications. The patient's visual acuity, which was counting fingers at 50 cm. initially, was found to be 0.1 at 4th and 6th month postoperative control visits. Resolution of posterior pole hemorrhages and edema was seen. Increase in hemodynamic activity was detected by fluorescein angiography and doppler ultrasonography.
Conclusion: Adventitial sheathotomy and radial optic neurotomy seem to be easily applied techniques. Prospective randomized trials are needed to assess the effectiveness and the safety of this procedure and to determine the best candidates for surgery.
