Purpose: To report our experience with the use of intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide in the treatment of sympathetic ophthalmia and to assess its efficacy.

Materials and Methods: A 70-year-old female patient who suffered from sympathetic ophthalmia. She was treated with systemic corticosteroid therapy and intravitreal injection of 4 mg of triamcinolone acetonide. The visual and anatomic responses were observed as well as complications related to the injection procedure during a mean follow-up of 6 months.

Results: Within the first 2 weeks after the injection, visual acuity and ocular signs improved significantly. The visual acuity in the eye improved from hand motion at baseline to 0,5 at 2. month post-injection During follow-up of 6 months we also obtained similar results and no injection-related complications were encountered.

Conclusıons: Intravitreal triamcinolone is an effective and relatively safe treatment for sympathetic ophthalmia in the short term. Although further studies are required to demonstrate long-term outcomes. Keywords : Sympathetic ophthalmia, intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide
