Cerrahpaşa Tıp Fakültesi, Göz Hastalıkları, CTF Göz Hast. A.D., İstanbul Purpose: To report on a case series of macular translocation with 360 degree peripheral retinotomy for the treatment of subfoveolar choroidal neovascularization due to age related macular degeneration.

Materials and Methods: The results of three eyes with subfoveal choroidal neovascularization due to age related macular degeneration who underwent macular translocation surgery with 360 degree peripheral retinotomy were reviewed. The data about demographic characteristics, preoperative and postoperative visual acuity, lesion type and size, follow-up time, intra and postoperative complications were studied from the patient charts.

Results: Mean age of 3 patients of whom 2 were male was 66.4 years. Follow-up time ranged from 7 to 13 months. Mean operating time was 4.5 hours. Macular translocation in the direction of superior quadrant were achieved in all the cases with the exception of one case in which translocation was less than intended. Visual acuity increased from the level of counting finger at 1.5 meters and hand movement to counting finger at 2 meters in 2 cases, and decreased from 1 mps to hand movement in 1 case. Complications were small subretinal hemorrhage limited to old fovea in one eye and bullous keratopathy due to corneal endotel decompensation in one eye. No patient underwent muscle surgery because of tolerable torsional confusion.

Conclusion: Macular translocation surgery is an alternative method in the treatment of choroidal neovascularization due to age related macular translocation. Keywords : Age related macular degeneration, macular translocation
