Purpose: To evaluate the technique and complications of phacoemulsification combined silicone oil removal with anterior chamber maintainer (ACM).
Materials and Methods: Thirty eight eyes of 38 patients who had vitreoretinal surgery and silicon oil implantation underwent phacoemulsification combined silicone oil removal operation with ACM. The data were examined retrospectively.
Results: Six patients (15.8%) had transient intraocular pressure increase and in all of these eyes intraocular pressure was controlled with medical treatment. In two cases (%5.3%) postoperative vitreous hemorrhage was developed. In five cases (13.1%) postoperative residual silicone oil bubble was observed. After the removal of silicone oil, retinal redetachment was developed in four cases (10.5%) within one month and these patiens were reoperated. In one case (%2.6) intraocular lens (IOL) was dislocated into vitreous. IOL was implanted in all patients. In postoperative period neither dislocation nor silicone oil bubble on the IOLs were observed.
Conclusion: Phacoemulsification combined silicone oil removal with ACM techique is a safe, rapid procedure and provides early visual rehabilitation.
