Diabetic macular edema is the most frequent cause for loss of vision in diabetic patients. The treatment of diabetic macular edema includes medical control of metabolic abnormalities; laser photocoagulation also is beneficial. Abnormal vitreous may be implicated in the development or exacerbation of diabetic macular edema. The release of vitreomaculr traction by vitrectomy with posterior hyaloid removal seems to be beneficial for diabetic macular edema. OCT is helpful for determining the vitreomacular traction. If clinical evaluation shows definite vitreomacular traction or refractory macular edema without evidence of vitreomacular traction, vitrectomy may be prefered. Keywords : Diabetic macular edema, vitrectomy
