S.B. Beyoğlu Göz Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi. 2. Göz Kliniği Şefi., İstanbul, Doç. Dr. Retinal vein occlusion is second reason after diabetic retinopathy as a cause of visual loss due to retinal vascular diseases. It’s seen in 0,1%of patients over 40 year-old and as the age increases, the incidence of central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) increases. The most extensive study about the natural course of CRVO was done by CRVO Study group (CVOS). In classical treatment of CRVO, not the disease itself but its complications can be treated. Nowadays intensive studies for reopening of the central retinal vein occlusion or providing shunt vessels are still persisting. Also various intravitreal drug applications are applied for the treatment of macular edema which is the most important factor causing visual loss in CRVO. In this article, current treatment modalities are discussed and the results of various studies are considered. Keywords : Central retinal vein occlussion, surgical treatment
